Common problems we find
Failed run capacitor
The single most common after hours failure in South Texas. The capacitor gives the compressor and fan motor the jolt they need to start. Valley heat shortens capacitor life considerably, and when one fails you usually hear a hum from the outdoor unit with no fan movement.
Burned contactor
The contactor is the electrical switch that starts the outdoor unit. Its contacts pit and burn over thousands of cycles. A stuck contactor can leave the compressor running constantly, and a failed one leaves the outdoor unit dead.
Clogged condensate drain
High humidity means a Valley air conditioner pulls gallons of water out of the air every day. Algae and dust block the drain line, the safety float switch cuts power to protect your ceiling, and the system shuts down with no obvious cause.
Frozen evaporator coil
Restricted airflow from a clogged filter, or low refrigerant from a leak, drops the coil below freezing. Ice blocks airflow completely. The system has to be shut off and allowed to thaw before any repair can be made, which is why calling early matters.
Refrigerant leak
Coil corrosion is accelerated by the salt air that reaches the Valley from the Gulf. A system low on refrigerant cools poorly, runs constantly, and eventually damages the compressor if it is left that way.
Blower motor or control board failure
Without the indoor blower there is no airflow at all. Failures here are often preceded by weeks of intermittent operation that got dismissed as a quirk.

04If a breaker trips again immediately after you reset it

05If the system is blowing warm air but the house is still tolerable and no one is vulnerable
Schedule within a few days: Check the filter and the breaker, then book the first available appointment. Tell us if it gets worse overnight.
06If you see ice on the refrigerant line but the house is comfortable
Schedule within a few days: Turn the cooling off and set the fan to on so the coil thaws, then schedule a visit. Running it iced makes the underlying problem worse.

Handle at your next service visit: Book a maintenance visit. These are early warnings, and catching them now is cheaper than catching them in August.
